Jack White
– Lazaretto
The characters in these songs aren’t heroes—they’re hustlers, loners, ex-lovers, and con men trapped in some 21st-century Southern Gothic fever dream. He sounds like he’s arguing with them all, and himself. Lazaretto is messy in the way art is supposed to be.
1985
R.E.M.
– Fables of the Reconstruction
Fables of the Reconstruction feels like a slow walk through abandoned towns and haunted woods. It’s flawed, yes. Sometimes the shadows overtake the melodies. But it’s also one of their most rewarding records—quietly brave and strange in all the right ways.
Talking Heads
– Little Creatures
The charm is in how Little Creatures sounds friendly while quietly skewering suburbia, religion, consumerism, and love with surgical smiles. It’s Byrne as the carnival barker for the American dream, selling you tickets to a funhouse where the mirrors don’t lie, they just laugh.

2007 – It goes on and on and on. Journey’s ’81 hit “Don’t Stop Believin’” is heard during the finale of HBO’s The Sopranos. Former Journey singer Steve Perry, who co-wrote the tune with keyboardist Jonathan Cain and guitarist Neal Schon, says the way the song was utilized in the last scene “blew my mind.”
Rock Albums Released in June
Marking the arrival of summer, June has been a prime month for rock album releases, offering the perfect stage for sounds that mirror the season’s energy and optimism. During the 1960s and 1970s, many albums released in June lacked precise documentation of their release dates. These records often carried a raw, experimental edge, reflecting the creative spirit of artists poised to define the soundtracks of summer. Whether through festival-ready anthems or introspective ballads, these albums captured the essence of a season ripe with possibility.
