Rock Albums Released on This Day in History
The daily read for fans looking to explore rock history one day—and one album—at a time.
Featured Rock Albums
2003
Killing Joke
– Killing Joke
Unlike their earlier mechanical post-punk dread, this album sounds alive. Brutally alive. There’s structure, sure, but it’s built like a bunker, meant to outlast catastrophe. These aren’t teenagers pretending the world’s ending. They’re middle-aged survivors, telling you it already did.
1986
R.E.M.
– Lifes Rich Pageant
Lifes Rich Pageant is where R.E.M. got louder, clearer, and harder to ignore. They didn’t abandon their southern gothic roots—they electrified them. It’s a transition album, but not a hesitant one. It moves like a band that knows exactly what it’s risking—and does it anyway.
1975
Black Sabbath
– Sabotage
Sabotage isn’t Sabbath at their cleanest or most iconic. It might be them at their most human—flawed, furious, and absolutely unwilling to go quietly. There’s a certain beauty to the chaos—it’s raw and ugly, which makes it feel real in a way most metal never dares.

Rock Albums Released in July
Steeped in the heat and energy of summer, July has been a fertile ground for rock album releases, embodying the season’s spirit of freedom and rebellion. In the earlier decades of rock, some albums emerged without a clear record of their release date. This lack of precision often stemmed from less rigorous industry tracking or staggered distribution methods common at the time. These releases frequently carried the bold experimentation and vibrant sounds that defined the peak of summer, offering fans the perfect soundtrack for long days and electric nights.
