Fastball

Having conquered Texas as Magneto U.S.A. (with Miles Zuniza – guitar/vocals, Tony Scalzo – bass/vocals and Joey Shuffield -drums/percussion) they were signed to Hollywood Records which led to the obligatory name change. Fortunate, since their old name made them sound like a Styx cover band. And there was no future in that.

“All The Pain Money Can Buy,” their second album, featured “The Way.” It was the tale of a couple of senior citizens taking off with ever knowing “the way.” Not only was it a lyrically inventive song; the staccato piano and jangling guitar took the song to the top of the Alternative Airplay chart.

The set also had “G.O.D. (Good Old Days)” and “Fire Escape.”

The follow up “Harsh Light Of Day” had “You’re An Ocean.” The band appeared on an episode of “Charmed” where the song played in a night club. It was also heard in the opening scene of a Disney Channel original movie – Motorcrossed.

But despite positive reviews, extensive touring and promotional activity, the album failed to match the success of its predecessor and was the band’s last studio effort for Hollywood Records… though they continued to record intermittently over the next two decades.

Enter Duran Duran from Birmingham, England. Duran…

Officially, the Outlaws formed in 1974 and disbanded in 1996. In reality, they were a factor for about a tenth of that time. Over their history there were twelve or thirteen editions of the band.
