Today In Rock: May 19th, 2016 – “Gimme Danger”

On this day,,, “Gimme Danger,” an Iggy Pop & The Stooges documentary, made its official premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in France. Director Jim Jarmusch called the film a “love letter to possibly the greatest band in Rock n’ Roll history.”

Jarmusch worked on the documentary, which mixed archival photos, footage and band member interviews. for nearly a decade after Iggy (James Osterberg) stated that if a film were to be made about The Stooges, he wanted Jarmusch to make it.

The documentary followed the band (Iggy, guitarist Ron Asheton, bassist Dave Alexander and drummer Scott Asheton) from their initial run, which had little success, to being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for being highly influential in the development of Punk Rock in the 1970s.
