With half the year over, it’s noteworthy that only three songs have had multi-week runs at #1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay Chart – Metallica (pictured above) -“Lux Æterna,” Linkin Park – “Lost” and Foo Fighters – “Rescued.”

Lux Æterna,” from the ’72 Seasons” album, was released late last year and topped the chart on December 17th for an eleven-week run (the longest this decade) that ended March 4th when “Welcome To The Circus” (Finger Death Punch) took the top spot for a week.

Just Pretend” (Bad Omens) displaced “Welcome To The Circus” but its stay only lasted a week before Linkin’ Park’s “Lost” took over for eight weeks – the second longest run this decade.

The one-week wonder “Cut The Line” (Papa Roach) ended Linkin Park’s reign on May 13th.

Then on May 20th, Foo FightersRescued” pushed “Cut The Line” aside and took over the top spot for six weeks.

Now, Metallica has returned to the top (July 1st chart date) with the title track from “72 Seasons.”
