King Ultramega With Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale Releases “Birth Ritual”

King Ultramega, the Chris Cornell (Soundgarden) tribute project, returns with “Birth Ritual,” a track originally featured on the 1992 “Singles” movie soundtrack.

“It was important to me to give a tip of the cap to a phenomenal film — which Chris famously cameos in — and a soundtrack that perfectly defined that entire era.” says producer/bassist Mark Menghi.

In addition to Hale and Menghi, the new version of “Birth Ritual” features original Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron and Halestorm’s Joe Hottinger (guitar).

“King Ultramega has become more than a cover project; it feels like a living tribute to Chris Cornell’s entire creative spirit,” continues Menghi. “If you notice the trend of King Ultramega releases thus far, we cover all aspects of Chris’s career — spanning different albums, bands and solo records — with no more than one song from any given release.”

Menghi launched King Ultramega in 2020 from a pandemic-era session recording of “Rusty Cage.” It grew into a full-scale tribute coinciding with Soundgarden’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in ’25.
