People Have the Power: Celebrating the Music of Patti Smith Is In March
“People Have the Power: Celebrating the Music of Patti Smith” at Carnegie Hall is scheduled for March 26th.
The concert is timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Smith’s classic “Horses” album. Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders), Michael Stipe (R.E.M.), Matt Berninger of the National, Karen O, Kim Gordon, Ben Harper and the Kills’ Alison Mosshart will be saluting Smith.
The house band will consist of former Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tech, guitarist Charlie Sexton, Flea, Smith’s bassist-keyboardist Tony Shanahan, and drummer Steve Jordan to back the singers.
Smith hasn’t released an album of new material since ’12’s “Banga” but has been active writing and other non-musical endeavors.
