A signed Eddie Van Halen Peavey EVH Wolfgang guitar that went on the auction block December 14th has sold for $110,000 by Guernsey’s auction house in New York City.

The guitar formerly belonged to Jason Becker, a rising guitar phenom who recorded two albums and had stints with David Lee Roth, before being diagnosed with ALS in 1989.

Becker received Van Halen‘s guitar as a gift in ’96 but had to part with the instrument in order to raise money for his ongoing care, which costs more than $100,000 a year.

Van Halen, an admirer of Becker’s work, wrote on the guitar: “Jason. We will play guitar together in the future. Love – from heart to your soul. Eddie Van Halen, ’96.”
