Today In Rock: January 20th, 2017 – The Anti-Inaugural Ball

On this day… Following President Donald Trump’s inauguration, Audioslave – featuring Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell and Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello – performed at the Prophets of Rage and Friends Anti-Inaugural Ball at the Teragram Ballroom in LA.

“The Anti-Inaugural Ball is a celebration of resistance,” said Morello. “Resistance to racism. Resistance to sexism. Resistance to homophobia. Resistance to bullying. Resistance to environmental devastation. Resistance to fascism. Resistance to Donald Trump. We are staring down the barrel of a dystopian nightmare unless we act now, unless we fight back now.”

Morello, known for his political activism, was in Rage Against The Machine prior to Audioslave.

“Bad presidents make for great music,” added Morello. It was Audioslave’s first concert since they disbanded in ‘07.

Prophets Of Rage, with Rappers B-Real and Chuck D along with Public Enemy’s DJ Lord, backed by RATM’s Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk, delivered their battle cry to “Make America Rage Again,” in defiance of Trump’s winning slogan.
