Mike Portnoy Returns To Dream Theater

Dream Theater have announced the return of drummer and founding member Mike Portnoy who will reunite with guitarist John Petrucci and bassist John Myung. They formed the band in ’85 at the Berklee College Of Music. The line-up also includes longtime members James LaBrie (vocals) and Jordan Rudess (keyboards).

Portnoy left Dream Theater in ’10 and was replaced by Mike Mangini.

He spent the intervening years with Adrenaline Mob, Flying Colors, Winery Dogs, Sons Of Apollo and Avenged Sevenfold, among others.

“I know that his return will bring a renewed spirit, passion and energy into DT (Dream Theater) that all of us, including our fans, will joyfully welcome,” enthused Petrucci. “I can’t wait to roll up our sleeves and get back into the studio together!”

Portnoy will take over from Mangini.
