Today In Rock: January 11th, 2014 – U2 Play A Hotel Lounge… For A Worthy Cause

On this day… U2 played “I Will Follow,” “Desire” and “Vertigo” at actor Sean Penn’s third annual Help Haiti benefit at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills. “It’s been a while since we played a hotel lounge,” frontman Bono noted. “I think the last time was a bar mitzvah.” It was the band’s first performance in four years.

In addition to U2, Bette Midler, Michael Douglas, Gwyneth Paltrow, Charlize Theron, Piers Morgan, Chelsea Handler and Sarah Silverman were among the celebrities in attendance at the event which raised nearly $6 million for the J/P Haitian Relief Organization.

J/P Haitian Relief Organization was founded following the 2010 earthquake to provide emergency care and sustainable shelter and education to the people of Haiti.
