Tom Morello Defends Springsteen – Slams Trump

If Donald Trump wanted a war with Rock, he’s got it.

After severely criticizing and even threatening to investigate Bruce Springsteen and U2’s Bono, Trump caught the ire of Tom Morello, Rage Against The Machine guitarist and solo performer, during Sunday’s (5/26) Boston Calling 2025 music festival.

Amid ‘F-k Trump’ buttons and ‘F-k ICE’ messages, Morello introduced a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “The Ghost of Tom Joad,” saying, “Bruce is going after Trump because Bruce, his whole life, he’s been about truth, justice, democracy, equality. And Trump is mad at him because Bruce draws a much bigger audience. F–k that guy.”

Morello told the audience Springsteen was “in a tussle with the president lately” after calling the current administration “corrupt, incompetent and treasonous,” which didn’t sit well with Trump.

At the top of his set, Morello invited fans to enjoy “the last big event before they throw us in jail.”
