Today In Rock: May 5th, 2006 – Red Hot Chili Peppers Deliver “Stadium Arcadium”

On this day… Red Hot Chili Peppers’ ninth album, “Stadium Arcadium,” dropped. It became the band’s first #1 on the Billboard 200 chart.    

The set was first released in Germany (May 9th in the U.S.). It produced five singles Including “Dani California,” which spent fourteen weeks at #1 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart, and “Snow (Hey Oh”), the band’s third straight #1 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart.

“Stadium Arcadium” was originally planned to be a trilogy of albums released six months apart but was eventually condensed into a double album.

It sold 442,000 copies in the U.S. in its first week to debut at the top of the Billboard 200.

Following the “”Stadium Arcadium” tour guitarist John Frusciante left the band. He ultimately returned over a decade later for the ’22 release “Unlimited Love.”
