The Grateful Dead & Bonnie Raitt To Receive Kennedy Honors In December

The Grateful Dead and Bonnie Raitt will be among the recipients of the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington D.C. on December 8th (CBS will broadcast of the ceremony on December 23rd).

“To be recognized alongside the artists who have in the past received this honor is beyond humbling,” wrote the four surviving founding members of the Grateful Dead — Bob Weir (pictured above), Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, and Phil Kreutzmann — in a statement. “We are privileged to share with all who are drawn to what we do.”

“There is no higher level of esteem nor as delightful a celebration and I want to extend my sincere thanks to all who have chosen me to receive this honor,” Raitt added. “I look forward to the upcoming ceremony and festivities, which I know will be one of my life’s peak experiences.”

Also, the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem will receive a “special Honors as an iconic American institution.”
