The 1975 are going on indefinite hiatus.
“After this tour we will be going on an indefinite hiatus of shows so it’s wonderful to have you guys with us tonight,” frontman Matthew Healy informed a Sacramento, CA audience (on 9/26). Tour dates run through a Seattle concert on December 2nd.
It’s been a rocky year for the band. Healy attracted attention on rumors he was dating Taylor Swift. But he ended up apologizing to Ice Spice, who was collaborating with Swift, for making offensive jokes at her expense.
Then authorities in Kuala Lumpur shut down the band’s festival concert after Healy criticized Malaysia’s anti-LGBTQ+ stance onstage. The fallout led the band to cancel the remainder of their Asian tour as festival’s organizers formally asked the band to pay them £2 million as compensation after the government shut down the entire festival.
