9/1 Skillet Say They Are Fine With Politicians Using Their Music

“I don’t care who plays my song at their political rally, because I believe in America over party.” explained Skillet’s John Cooper. “I believe in the foundations of this country,” explained Cooper during an On The Road To Rock podcast.

9/2 Oasis Want To Shut Down Resellers

Oasis reunion tour tickets have been offered for as much as $8,000 on resale sites.

The band, primarily Noel and Liam Gallagher (pictured), warned any sales that turned out to be illegal would be canceled.

9/2 Jelly Roll Goes to Prison

Jelly Roll, a former inmate, took his music the maximum security yard at Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem. “For the first time in 20 f—— years they have brought music to the prison yard,” Jelly Roll tells the prisoners from an impromptu stage.

Yes, the show includes a rendition of Johhny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues” which he personalized to “Oregon State Prison.” 

9/3 Devildriver Guitarist Mike Spreitzer Leaves Band

“After 20 years of playing guitar for Devildriver, I have decided it is time to go my own way,” said Spreitzer.

9/4 Brian May Suffers Minor Stroke

Queen guitarist Brian May reveals that he recently suffered a minor stroke. The 77-year-old was initially unable to use his left arm but has since regained enough movement to be able to play music.

9/5 Linkin Park Announces New Singer, Song and Album

Linkin Park introduces Emily Armstrong, a co-founder of Dead Sara, as their co-vocalist (with Mike Shinoda). The band also debuts “The Emptiness Machine” and the album “From Zero.”

9/5 “Walk On The Wild Side” Bassist Dies

Herbie Flowers, who provided the hypnotic bass line for Lou Reed’s classic, dies from unspecified causes. Flowers long career includes sessions with David Bowie, Elton John and Paul McCartney. He also played the distinctive bass part on David Essex’s 1973 smash “Rock On” and Nilsson’s “Jump In The Fire.”

9/6 Blink-182 Release “One More Time… Part-2” 

The eight new tracks expand last year’s “One More Time…,” which went to #1 on the Billboard 200. 

9/6 The Dead Daisies’ Seventh Set “Light ‘Em Up”

Vocalist John Corabi, ex-Mötley Crüe, joined The Dead Daisies in early ’15 but after three studio albums, he departed in ’19 only to return last year,

9/6 Metallica’s James Hetfield Is In “The Thicket”

The “dark western thriller” is in theaters. It is Hetfield’s third feature film credit (and second playing a sheriff). His two previous films were “The Darwin Awards,” with Metalica as themselves and “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile” where Hetfield played Bob Howard, the sheriff who was the first to arrest serial killer Ted Bundy.

9/7 Daughtry is #1 With “Pieces”

Six months after earning its first #1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart with “Artificial,” Daughtry returns to the top.

9/9 White Stripes Sue Donald Trump

The White Stripes file a lawsuit against former President Donald Trump asking for “significant monetary damages” over the use of their ’03 song, “Seven Nation Army,” for campaigning purposes without permission. 

“It is not about erasing the past,” Linkin Park’s co-vocalist/rhythm guitarist Mike Shinoda tells the audience. “It is about starting this new chapter into the future and coming out here for each and every one of you.

9/13 Flotsam And Jetsam’s “I Am The Weapon” Drops

Their 15^th studio effort “goes one step further in terms of musical skill and composition,” stated the band in a statement.

It includes the title track and follow-up songs, “Primal” and “Burned My Bridges.”

9/13 Snow Patrol Issues Eighth Album

“The Forest Is The Path” contains the lead single “The Beginning.” The song “was written on the very first day,” the band wrote on Instagram. “That’s why it’s called the beginning in fact. Even though there are probably better words and phrases (that actually appear in the song) to be used as titles, ‘The Beginning’ stuck.”

9/13 Stryper’s New Album “When We Were Kings” Arrives

“This album has some different twists and turns to it,” explained Stryper frontman Michael Sweet, talking about the band’s 16^h studio effort.

9/13 Onstage Fight Ends Jane’s Addiction Concert

Frontman Perry Farrell assaults guitarist Dave Navarro during a Jane’s Addiction concert in Boston. Ferrell is upset that the band starts “Oceans Size” before Perry is ready and that the band is playing too loud forcing Ferrell to scream the lyrics to be heard. After attempting to punch Navorro roadies haul Ferrell off the stage.

9/14 Jane’s Addiction Apologizes

The day after their onstage meltdown Jane’s Addiction issues the following statement on Instagram: “We want to extend a heartfelt apology to our fans for the events that unfolded last night.” Subsequently, the band cancels the remainder of their tour.

9/14 Seether’s “Judas Mind” Tops Mainstream Rock Chart

“Judas Mind” is the lead single from the band’s ninth studio effort, “The Surface Seems So Far.”

9/15 Jelly Roll Sings At The Emmys

He sings “I Am Not Okay” during the In Memoriam tribute segment at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Prior to performing the song, Jelly Roll tells the audience: “I believe that music is therapeutic. I believe that music can heal. I also believe that storytelling is just as cathartic.”

9/15 Journey Singer Will Quit If That’s What Fans Want

After being criticized online for his performance, struggling to hit the right notes, during the band’s appearance at Rock in Rio, singer Arnel Pineda writes on his Facebook page that he’ll quit the band if enough fans vote “go.” “No one more than me in this world feels so devastated about this,” the singer posts.

9/17 Joey Jordison’s Estate Settles

The estate filed the lawsuit against Slipknot last year accusing the band of profiting from the drummer’s death after “abruptly” kicking him out of the group and failing to give back items belonging to Jordison after promising to do so. Terms of the settlement are undisclosed.

9/20 Ex-Delain Vocalist Releases “The Obsession”

Charlotte Wessels issued her third full-length solo effort, “The Obsession.”

“This album is significant, for on the one hand, telling such a deeply personal journey — through its unintended theme of fear and obsessive thoughts — and at the same time, representing the joy of finding the song’s true forms with everyone involved in the making of this record,” Wessels explained.

9/20 Seether Unfurls “The Surface Seems So Far”

The lead single was set opener “Judas Mind.” “(It) is a song about reaching an understanding that there are bad actors in our lives that are trying to force an outcome for us that we don’t see as our destiny,” explained frontman Shaun Morgan. “It’s about rising up against people who have a vision for you that you don’t share.”

The band’s tenth set is a fantastical voyage through time, memory, and the better angels of human nature,” offered keyboardist/main songwriter Tuomas Holopainen.

9/20 “Live In London” Is Skid Row’s First Official Live Album 

Recorded in October of ’22 at the 02 Forum Kentish Town, the set marks Skid Row’s final release with singer Erik Grönwall, who quit the band earlier this year due to health concerns.

9/20 Haley Williams’ Cue Cards

Paramore’s Haley Williams shared her negative opinion of presidential candidate Donald Trump during a concert at the Las Vegas’ iHeartRadio Music Festival. In the aftermath Elon Musk, and others, criticized her over reading from cue cards. “I typed out my speech… in case I got nervous because what I had to say was important and I didn’t want to trip up in the moment,” responds Williams.

9/20 Corrosion Of Conformity Bassist Exits

In announcing his departure from the band he co-founded. Mike Dean said: “”Ever since Reed (Mullin) drifted away from the band and then passed away, it’s been difficult for me to collaborate on new material with bandmates who live hundreds of miles away.”

9/21 Perry Ferrell Seeking Treatment

Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Ferrell is “seeking medical treatment” states the singer’s wife, Etty Lau Farrell on Instagram. This comes after Perry’s onstage altercation with guitarist Dave Navarro earlier this month in Boston. Perry’s wife calls him the “gentlest of souls.”

9/22 Slayer Returns

Slayer play their first concert in five years at Riot Fest in Chicago’s Douglass Park. “South Of Heaven” is the opener for the 20-song set.

9/25 Heart’s Ann Wilson Finishes Chemo

Heart’s Ann Wilsom reveals that she’s finished chemotherapy and ready to prepare for the band’s rescheduled 2025 Royal Flush tour.

9/25 Billie Joe Armstrong Rant Gets Green Day Dropped  

Upset the Oakland A’s are relocating to Las Vegas in ’28, the East Bay native and Green Day frontman launches into a rant during a San Francisco concert dissing Las Vegas. As a result, a pair of Vegas radio stations (KOMP-FM and KXTE-FM) decide to remove Green Day from their rotations saying, “good riddance.”

9/25 Tom Morello Receives Guthrie Award

The Rage Against The Machine guitarist/social activist receives the Woody Guthrie Prize at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa, OK.  The annual award recognizes a recipient who embodies the spirit of Folk singer/songwriter Woody Guthrie’s social consciousness and musical legacy.

9/26 Ex-Red Hot Chili Peppers Guitarist Arraigned

Josh Kinghoffer is arraigned on a misdemeanor charge of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence in relation to the March 18^th incident in Alhambra, CA that left one person dead. He does not attend and pleads not guilty through his lawyer.

9/27 Daughtry: Shock To The System (Part One)

The EP features the lead single, “The Reckoning.” “(The song) is about that moment in life when you realize that you are in control of your own destiny,” stated frontman Chris Daughtry. 

9/27 Richie Kotzen: Nomad

“I really never know how, when or where inspiration will strike for a song idea,” explained guitarist/singer Kotzen. “I never try to force anything because I know ultimately at some point in time life will hand you a situation and for a guy like myself that is the perfect spark.” The set contains the tracks Featuring the tracks “Cheap Shots“ and “On The Table.”

9/28 Halestorm/I Prevail’s collaboration is #1

“Can U See Me In The Dark?” is #1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart.

It’s Halestorm’s seventh #1 and I Prevail’s third #1 – their first since “Bad Things” in ’22.
