Blues Legend John Mayall Dies
John Mayall, legendary Blues musician and founder of John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, has died (on 7/22) at the age of 90.
From an early age Mayall was drawn to the sounds of American Blues. As a singer, guitarist, harmonica player, and keyboardist, he had a career that spanned decades and was often referred to as the “godfather of the British Blues.”
Earlier this year, Mayall was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the musical influence category.
Over the course of his lengthy career Mayall released (with the Bluesbreakers or solo) over three dozen albums with “The Turning Point,” an acoustic live set released in ’69 being certified gold in the U.S.
But often attention was focused on who was in the Bluesbreakers over the years: John McVie and Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac), Eric Clapton (Cream) and Mick Taylor (Rolling Stones), to name a few. Mayall was key in the development of a generation of influential musicians.
