The Week In Rock: March 8th – March 15th
Tool, Mastodon, Dorothy and Shinedown.

3/8 Tool Gets Booed At Their Own Festival
Tool performs on the first two nights of their “Tool in the Sand festival,” in Punta Cana., Dominican Republic. After promising fans no songs would be repeated, the second set has a handful of songs from the previous evening’s show. Fans express their displeasure by booing with some threatening a class action suit.

3/9 Guitarist Performs First Concert With Mastodon
Ben Eller, replacing Mastodon founding member Brent Hinds, plays at “Tool Live In The Sand.” Eller says it’s a “true honor.”

3/12 “Abbott Elementary” Goes Nu Metal
During the “Karaoke” episode of the ABC TV show, the character of Jacob (played by Chris Perfetti – pictured) changes his selection at the last minute to express his inner angst and shocks everyone with a performance of Papa Roach’s ’00 debut single, “Last Resort.”
The song first appeared on the soundtrack for the ’00 film “Ready To Rumble” and was on Papa Roach’s second studio album, “Infest.” It topped the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart for seven weeks.
Last year, the song was certified 6× platinum by the RIAA.

3/14 “Vaxis – Act III: The Father Of Make Believe” Arrives
Coheed And Cambria’s tenth full-length studio effort, continues “The Amory Wars”/”Vaxis” narrative and follows their ’22 album “Vaxis Act II: A Window Of The Waking Mind.”
The lead track is “Searching For Tomorrow.” “This song is a reminder that always looking for something better in your life robs you of being able to appreciate the good things you already have,” notes vocalist/guitarist Caludio Sanchez.

3/14 Dorothys Shows “The Way”
Dorothy, fronted by vocalist Dorothy Martin, have released “The Way,” the band’s fourth studio set.
“This album is a love letter to the fans,” offers the singer. “I’m letting them know everything is going to be okay, and we’ll help each other find the way — even if we get lost at times.”
It features the single “Tombstone Town,” with Slash (Guns N; Roses) on guitar.

3/15 Shinedown’s Major Milestone
Dance, Kid, Dance” is Shinedown’s 20th song to reach #1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. They are the first to achieve twenty #1s on the survey.
The band’s first #1 on the Mainstream Rock chart came in 2005 with “Save Me.”
“The last two albums (“Attention! Attention!” and “Planet Zero”) were both conceptual so it was important for us to really ask ourselves creatively where do we want to go,” asks frontman Brent Smith, rhetorically. “The answer to that was we want to go everywhere so there was no specific direction.”
