Today In Rock: February 23rd, 2019 – Queen Rules The Rock Album Chart

On this day… On the strength of a hugely successful biopic, Queen commanded the top three spots on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart:  #1 “Bohemian Rhapsody: The Original Soundtrack”; #2 “Queen’s Greatest Hits”; and #3 “Greatest Hits I, II & III: The Platinum Collection.”

“Bohemian Rhapsody: The Original Soundtrack” from the film of the same name featured many of the band’s songs and unreleased recordings including tracks from the ’85 Live Aid concert in London (including an extraordinary version of “Radio Ga-Ga)..

The soundtrack album peaked at #2 on the all-inclusive Billboard 200.  It served as Queen’s seventeenth Top 40 album and their second-highest charting album in the U.S.

With the soundtrack rising on the Billboard 200, “The Platinum Collection” entered the Top 10, making it the first time Queen simultaneously had two albums on that chart.

Returning to the Billboard Top Rock Albums chart, Greta Van Fleet’s “Anthem For A Peaceful Army” was #4.
