“Electric Lady: A Jimi Hendrix Vision” Documentary Coming
The full-length documentary “Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision“ will debut in New York City on August 9t.h, followed by a global roll out.
The film chronicles the creation of the studio, from a bankrupt Manhattan nightclub to a state-of-the-art recording facility.
But the original concept was to turn the building into Hendrix’s personal club so he could hang with friends and record jam sessions.
Hendrix’s long-time collaborator/engineer, Eddie Kramer, didn’t think much of that idea.
‘You guys must be out your f-ing minds,” Kramer told Hendrix’s management team. “Do you have any idea of what Jimi spends in studio time in a year? Let’s build the best studio in the world for him so when he walks in, he can relax and record whenever he wants.”
Hendrix was steered from building a nightclub to creating a commercial recording studio. When Hendrix recorded in the new studio Kramer said, “he loved the way it sounded and its vibe.”
Though Hendrix died before he had a chance to fully utilize the facility many other performers did. The list includes John Lennon, The Clash, AC/DC, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga and Beyonce, among countless others.
