For most of their career, Three Days Grace was locked in a battle with Shinedown for the most #1s on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. However, the chart surveys songs with the most commercial appeal and that does not directly correlate to quality. Below are the 10 Best Three Days Grace songs.

#10. Get Out Alive

The song explores themes of struggle, survival, and the desire to escape the surrounding darkness.

The track is off their sophomore album “One-X,” was written by Gontier, Walst, Stock, Sanderson and producer Gavin Brown.

#9. Just Like You

“It’s about being told how to live your life,” Gontier offered. “When we were growing up, we saw it sort of first-hand. A lot of our friends were pushed into doing jobs their parents were telling them to do. It’s about being pushed around and told how to live your life and standing up.”

Just Like You

#8. Home

“It’s about being pushed around and neglected and feeling like even though you’re in the company of other people, they’re not really there at all,” noted Sanderson.

“‘Home’ hits a spot with me,” added Gontier. “It’s a fun song to play live as well. It’s tough to pick a favorite (from the band’s self-title debut) but because of the amount of energy we give it live, I’d say it’s ‘Home.'”

Home

#7. Never Too Late

“I guess it’s like feeling like you’re at the end of your rope and deciding whether or not to completely give up or whether or not to try and sort of keep making it through another day,” said Gontier of the song.

#6. The Good Life

“It’s a grass greener kinda thing,” observed Gontier. “You look at somebody else’s life and wanting what they have, which again brings you back to the ego – it doesn’t matter how good your life looks from the outside, there’s always things you want.”

The Good Life

#5. Mayday

Gontier left Three Days Grace in ’13 with Matt Walst, Brad’s younger brother, stepping in. Eleven years later, Gontier returned to the band sharing lead vocals with Walst.

“Sometimes life is turbulent, but beyond the clouds is blue skies. So, just keep going,”Walst suggested.

“Mayday” went to #1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart.

Mayday

#4. Break

“It’s really just about if you don’t like the situation you’re in or what’s going on around you it’s entirely up to you to break out of it,” stated Stock. “That’s it. It’s pretty much just breaking out and letting loose. You don’t have to be stuck in whatever it is you’re dealing with. Whether it’s good or bad, it’s your choice to make a change.”

Break

#3. Pain

The track was influenced by Gontier’s ’05 rehab stint after struggling with an OxyCotin addiction. He describes the song as “feeling like you’re constantly numb to things around you, thanks to your own actions, and it’s about being sick of that feeling.”

Pain

#2. Animal I’ve Become

This is another song where Gontier’s lyrics originated while he was in rehab. “‘Animal I Have Become’ is my realization that change had to happen, I had to ask for help,”Gontier explained.

Animal I Have Become

#1. I Hate Everything About You

“It’s about realizing there’s something in your life you’re wasting time on,” Gontier shared. ‘I think everybody, even in this band and a lot of other people have felt that way before at one point or another in their life. Whether it’s a person, a relationship whatever it is, you’re just wasting time on it. The song is a realization of that.”

I Hate Everything About You

Three Days Grace formed in Norwood, Ontario in 1992. They originally called themselves Goundswell before disbanding in 1995. They regrouped two years later as Three Days Grace.
