Slipknot: 2023 Headlines

The year’s news begins and ends with Jay Weinberg.

4/1 Drummer Jay Weinberg debuts a new mask. Weinberg worked with Japanese artist Solid Blackline to create a new mask specially for Knotfest Japan shows.

6/7 Just prior to the start of a European tour, Slipknot co-founder and percussionist M. Shawn Crahan (a.k.a. Clown) states that he will sit out a number of the band’s shows in order to stay home with his wife, who is suffering from an undisclosed health issue.  Next, Slipknot announces that they have parted ways with keyboardist Craig Jones who joined the band in early 1996.  And just hours later, Slipknot play its first show with a “new mystery member” at the Nova Rock Festival in Austria.

8/7 Vocalist Corey Taylor speaks out about mental health during an interview.  “I would tell my 18-year-old self that it’s going to be okay, because no one ever f*cking told me that. And anyone who needs to hear that, right now, listen to me. It is going to be okay, no matter what is going on, it is all temporary.”

11/5 Slipknot part ways with longtime drummer Jay Weinberg, who replaced Joey Jordison a decade ago. The band thanked Weinberg for his ten years of dedication and passion before adding they “decided to make a creative decision.”
