Shinedown’s Top 10
Shinedown has scored the most #1s on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Songs chart (19). But there is more to the band than the chart toppers. The following is a list of their Top 10 songs.
#10. Save Me – Us And Them (2005)
“‘Save Me’ is a song about how people will take on everyone else’s problems and issues,” offered vocalist Brent Smith. “When they put that much pressure on themselves, they’re going to hit a wall eventually. A person in my life saw me go through the darkest times in life. They picked me up. Eventually they had that dark time and I had to pick them up.”
#9. Amaryllis – Amaryllis (2012)
“It’s about the rebirth of this band, Brent’s meaning might differ slightly in that it contains the thoughts about his girlfriend who helped him through a difficult time, but those two things kind of happened at the same time and it really encompasses the band,” noted drummer Barry Kerch.
#8. Devour – The Sound Of Madness (2008)
Inspired by the Iraq war, vocalist Brent Smith said, “This was a song that was totally representative of the men and women of the United States of America in the military and all the armed forces and what they do for us. But in all reality it’s a hat’s off to them.”
#7. Adrenaline – Amaryllis (2012)
Adrenaline” is a straight-forward Rock song and is one of many WWE licensed for use for their pay-per-view events (official theme song of WWE Extreme Rules 2012). It was also the official theme song of Extreme Attitude (the monster truck).
#6. How Did You Love – Threat To Survival (2015)
The rhythmic ballad “is about understanding and respecting your own mortality,” Smith told Billboard. “Live each day to its fullest and without regret, especially when it comes to your relationships and your individuality. You need to be at peace and proud when you look back and ask yourself, ‘how did you love?'”
#5. “Enemies” – Amaryllis (2012)
Written by Smith, bassist Eric Bass and producer/songwriter Dave Bassett the song has generated over 59-million views on YouTube. Also, WWE used “Enemies” as the theme song for ‘Monday Night Raw’ from ’16 to ’18 and it was featured in the WWE 2K18 video game.
#4. Sound Of Madness – The Sound of Madness (2008)
The song was chosen to be the title track after being road tested on a short run of dates.
With “Sound Of Madness” Shinedown became the only band whose first 10 singles all reached at least the Top 5 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart. From that group “Sound Of Madness” was one of four to reach #1.
#3. The Crow & The Butterfly – The Sound Of Madness (2008)
Inspired by a dream about moving on after the passing of a loved one, Smith has shared that the power ballad “was one of the most intense stories I have ever written. But I know the song means something different to everyone.”
#2. DEVIL – ATTENTION ATTENTION (2018)
“’Devil’ is about being afraid, ‘Devil’ is about being terrified of not only yourself, in some respects, but the world around you, and understanding that there are so many things and so many different situations and people and places and atmospheres and exposure that human beings are put in front of on a daily basis,” shared Smith. “The world can be a really difficult place to navigate.”
#1. Second Chance – The Sound Of Madness (2008)
A “Second Chance” is Shinedown’s most successful single from their most successful album, “Second Chance” was inspired by Smith’s own experience with chasing his Rock and Roll dreams.
“This song was difficult for me to write the lyrics to because it’s about my mother and my father, and about the day I said goodbye to them, because I had to go try, and I’m still trying, every day, to become a man,” commented Smith. “So, this song is about that. It’s about the moment that you wake up and you decide you want to go for every single dream you ever want.”
