Ozzy Osbourne

Ozzy Osbourne‘s wife Sharon flatly stated in a recent interview on “The Adam Carolla Show” that her husband should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist.

“They know that Ozzy deserves to be there,” Sharon opined. “They know he’s been a solo artist. You’ve gotta be doing it for 25 years. He’s been 43 years as a solo artist.” Ozzy was inducted into the Hall in ’06 as a member of Black Sabbath.

The Rock Hall has had a stormy relationship with Hard Rock/Metal. The institution, based in Cleveland, has inducted non-Rock acts like ABBA, Donna Summer, Public Enemy and Dolly Parton but appear reluctant or ridiculously tardy when it comes to adding Hard Rock or acts.

KISS were inducted in ’14 following fifteen years of eligibility. And when they got in, they blasted the Hall as elitest. “The people pay for tickets, the people buy albums, the people who nominate (Hall inductees) do not,” said bassist Paul Stanley.

Iron Maiden is still out. Five years ago, Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson proclaimed, “If we’re ever inducted, I will refuse — they won’t bloody be having my corpse in there.” The band has been eligible since ’05.

For the record, in addition to Black Sabbath and KISS, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, AC/DC, Judas Priest, Van Halen, Rush and Deep Purple are in the Hall.
