Former Iron Maiden Frontman Paul Di’Anno Dies

Paul Di’Anno, who fronted the band from 1978-1981, has died (on 10/21) at age 66.

Born in Chingford, East London on May 17th, 1958, Di’Anno sang on Iron Maiden’s groundbreaking debut album “Iron Maiden” and the influential follow-up, “Killers.”

In a statement Iron Maiden wrote: “Paul’s contribution to Iron Maiden was immense and helped set us on the path we have been travelling as a band for almost five decades. His pioneering presence as a frontman and vocalist, both on stage and on our first two albums, will be very fondly remembered not just by us, but by fans around the world.”

Di’Anno was fired from Iron Maiden in ’81. His last show with the band happened on September 10th, 1981, in Copenhagen, Denmark. At the time he was paid out and did not receive royalties from Iron Maiden songs.

The band moved on hiring Bruce Dickinson while Di’Anno pursued a solo career and working with a handful of bands.
