A Day In Rock: November 4th, 2018 – Axl Rose Wants Trump To Stop
On this day six years ago… Axl Rose, Guns N’ Roses frontman, wants everyone to know that when “Sweet Child O’ Mine” was played at President Trump’s rally in West Virginia, he did not approve this message.
“Unfortunately, the Trump campaign is using loopholes in the various venues’ blanket performance licenses which were not intended for such craven political purposes, without the songwriters’ consent,” states Rose.
GN’R “formally requests” Trump’s campaign stop using their music.
But that wasn’t the end of it. Two years later, the song was played again when Trump made a campaign stop at a meatpacking plant and at a motorcycle rally for his supporters on the White House South Lawn.
“Sweet Child O’ Mine” was released on 1988’s “Appetite For Destruction.”
Over two dozen artists, including Bruce Springsteen, Linkin Park, Foo Fighters, R.E.M. and Guns N’ Roses have demanded Trump not play their music at his rallies.
In this year’s election cycle, Foo Fighters and Jack White/White Stripes, plus pop performers Celine Dion and Beyoncé, have slammed Trump over the unauthorized use of their songs.
