U2 Receive Ivor Novello Award

U2 received Fellowship of the Ivors Academy held Thursday (5/22) night at London’s Grosvenor House.

Frontman Bono took the opportunity to call for and end of the war between Hamas and Isreal.

“Hamas release the hostages. Stop the war. Israel be released from Benjamin Netanyahu and far-right fundamentalists that twist your sacred texts. All of you protect our aid workers, they are the best of us,” stated Bono.

This is the first time that Bono has voiced his opinion about the ongoing conflict.

The band performed “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” which is about the ’72 massacre where the British army shot at unarmed Irish protestors in Derry, Northern Ireland killing 14. The song was chosen because it seeks peace.

“It was not a rebel song,” Bono noted. “It was because believing in the possibilities of peace was then, and is now, a rebellious act; and some would say a ridiculous one.”
