Today In Rock: April 27th, 2024 – Green Day Returns To #1
On this day… Green Day’s “Dilemma” became their ninth song to top Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart and their second in a row, following “American Dream Is Killing Me.” Both tracks were from Green Day’s 14th studio album, “Saviors.”
“Dilemma,” which was written by the band with lyrics by guitarist/frontman Billie Joe Armstong (pictured) also topped the Rock & Alternative Airplay chart and was nominated for Best Rock Song at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards. However, the honor went to St. Vincent for “Broken Man.”
@yeOldeThorne wrote: “It’s offensive that this song didn’t win that Grammy.”
The song was lyrically inspired by Armstrong’s struggles with alcohol addiction and mental health.
@DankTerrace added: “This song is so personal and from the heart. We are all proud of you Billie.”
