Avenged Sevenfold Guitarist Weighs In On Fan’s Reactions
Fans have had mixed reactions regarding Avenged Sevenfold‘s eighth album, “Life Is But A Dream…” The experimental album, with a solo piano title track, dropped last June.
The band’s first album in seven years peaked at #13 on the Billboard 200 and landed in the Top 3 on the Billboard Rock charts. But despite that and critical praise, the album was less commercially successful than the band’s previous efforts.
Sevenfold guitarist Synyster Gates says fan reaction is similar to how people felt about The Beatles.
“My mom hates everything post-‘Sgt. Pepper’s’, my dad couldn’t care less about the early stuff. So, for my mom, ‘Sgt. Pepper’s’ was the death of The Beatles, and I think for a lot of people, this is the death of Avenged Sevenfold. But for a lot of other people, it’s a birth.”
“Life Is But A Dream…” sold 36,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in its first week of release while “The Stage,” released in ’16, had first week sales of 76,000 units.
