Today In Rock: August 20th, 2021 – Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy) Monument Unveiled

On this day… A monument honoring Thin Lizzy mainman Phil Lynott was unveiled in his hometown of West Bromwich where he was born and lived before moving to Dublin. The unveiling was on what would have been Lynott’s 72nd birthday.

The statue was designed by Luke Perry. Sean Meaney led the fundraising campaign. It was an extended process, with a nearly two-year delay due to the pandemic. “But now it’s all systems go,” said Meaney.

The unveiling was streamed live for fans around the world.
