“FireAid” Comes Through: Green Day & Three-Fourths Of Nirvana
The “Fire Aid” concerts in L.A. (1/30) were an essential step toward recovery from the devastation and cost of the wildfires that raged through SoCal in mid-January. Numerous performers played at two venues to raise money to aid in rebuilding.
Performers at the newly opened Intuit Dome included Jelly Roll. Rod Stewart and Stevie Wonder.
At the Kia Forum Green Day, Alanis Morissette, No Doubt, Pink, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Stevie Nicks took the stage.

Green Day kicked off their show with a version of “Last Night On Earth” with Billie Joe Armstrong playing acoustic guitar. Billie Eilish, walked out as a surprise guest (she was scheduled for the Intuit Dome show starting later). The pair shared the chorus in front of a backdrop of photos illustrating fire rescue efforts.
Green Day’s set also included “Still Breathing” and “When I Come Around,” featuring Armstrong calling out many of the California cities destroyed by the fires, including Altadena and Pacific Palisades. “We are in this together,” he shouted.
Also, the surviving Nirvana members Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear reunited onstage to perform several of the Grunge band’s classic songs. Filling in for the late Kurt Cobain were guest vocalists St. Vincent, Joan Jett, Kim Gordon and Violet Grohl, Dave’s daughter.
