Classic Rock Still Rocks
Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumours” (released in 1977) is the best charting Rock album on the Billboard 200’s year-end tally holding the #30 slot – just ahead of Queen’s “Greatest Hits” at #31.
Nirvana’s “Nevermind” (#57) and AC/DC’s “Back In Black” (#84) are the only two original Rock albums listed in the Top 100. All the others are compilations.
They are Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Chronicle – The 20 Greatest Hits” (#55), Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ “Greatest Hits” (#78), Guns N’ Roses’ “Greatest Hits” (#81) and Journey’s “Greatest Hits” (#93).
Imagine Dragons’ “Mercury – Act 1” (released in late 2021) is #98 on the survey.
Machine Gun Kelly’s “Mainstream Sellout” holds #121. MGK’s 2020 album “Tickets To My Downfall” is #123.
Those are the only recent Rock albums to land on survey.
Oddly, Red Hot Chili Peppers had two #1 albums on the Billboard 200 in 2022 (“Unlimited Love” and “Welcome To The Dream Canteen”) but neither made the year-end chart.
