Judge Rejects Metallica’s Claim
A California appeals court has rejected Metallica’s lawsuit demanding that Lloyd’s of London cover more than $3 million in losses stemming from cancelled 2020 South American concerts due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Weeks prior to the tour’s scheduled launch, COVID-19-related travel restrictions were enacted in all parts of the world, giving Metallica no choice but to postpone the dates.
Metallica later filed a complaint in Los Angeles Superior Court claiming the band’s standard “cancellation, abandonment and non-appearance insurance” policy with Lloyd’s Of London was denied by the insurer, which cited the policy’s communicable disease exclusion. The judge sided with Lloyd’s of London.
Metallica initially submitted that they suffered a $3,234,569 loss from the canceled shows.
