On this day… Pearl Jam was #1 on Billboard’s Rock & Alternative Airplay chart for the first time with “Dark Matter.”
The song’s lyrics were written by vocalist Eddie Vedder with music composed by Pearl Jam and producer Andrew Watt.
“Dark Matter,” which earned 5.6 million airplay audience impressions in its second week on the survey, was the title track of the band’s 12th studio album.
The last song to reach #1 on the chart that quickly was Linkin Park‘s single “Lost,” which dropped in ’23 and also took only two weeks to reach the top.
Prior to leading the Rock & Alternative Airplay survey, Pearl Jam had multiple #1s on Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock Airplay and Alternative Airplay charts.
