Disturbed unfurl their fourth studio album “Indestructible.” “I don’t think I’ve seen a reaction like we’ve had to this record since (’00’s debut) ‘The Sickness’,” says frontman David Draiman. “I think that people are in for one hell of a wild ride.” 2008

“Indestructible” debuts at #1 on the Billboard 200.  It is the band’s third consecutive #1 on that chart.  A rare feat.

Volbeat release their sixth full-length album, “Seal The Deal & Let’s Boogie.” 2016

The album debuts at #4 on the Billboard 200 and is their highest debut chart position to date.

Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Billy Powell is born in Corpus Christi, TX. He is a Skynyrd roadie when he plays his own version of “Free Bird” on the piano for singer Ronnie Van Zant. Impressed, Van Zant asks Powell to join. 1952

Slayer founding member and guitarist, Kerry King, is born in L.A. 1964

Drummer Ringo Starr collapses during a photo shoot the day before The Beatles leave on a world tour. He enters the hospital with tonsillitis and pharyngitis. Jimmy Nichol fills in until Ringo rejoins the group on June 12th in Australia. 1964

Nice junket to the States. To re-record two words in the song “Lola,” the Kinks’ Ray Davies flies from London to New York. “Coca-Cola” becomes “cherry cola” to avoid any commercial conflicts. 1970

“Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman?” is the top song in the U.S. The Bryan Adams ballad is from the “Don Juan DeMarco” soundtrack.  The film stars Johnny Depp and Marlon Brando. 1995

Degree in the attic. Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler receives an honorary doctorate degree from University of Massachusetts – Boston during the commencement ceremony. The degree is awarded in recognition of Tyler’s musical achievements and contributions to Boston-area charities. 2005

Van Halen’s (David Lee Roth, Alex and Eddie Van Halen plus Eddie’s son Wolfgang –   playing bass) North American tour comes to a close at the Van Andel Arena in Quebec City, Canada. The trek grosses more than $93 million over 74 shows-a band record. 2008

Former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic files for the position of County Clerk in Washington State’s Wahkiakum County. His campaign objects to what he calls a “confusing” law that allows candidates to list any party affiliation they choose on the ballot. Novoselic’s preferred party is Grange, which is not a party but actually the Grays River Grange; a nonpartisan, progressive organization that he leads. Novoselic later withdraws saying he’s made his point.  2009

Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor announces that his unplanned spinal surgery due to a broken neck will force the delay of a Slipknot summer tour.  Meanwhile, “Officer Downe,” directed by Slipknot’s Shawn Crahan makes its world premiere at the 22nd Los Angeles Film Festival. 2016

Jack White (White Stripes/Raconteurs) is given a key to the City of Cincinnati after closing the Bunbury Music Festival.  He is given the key by Mayor John Cranley during a trip to King Records.  The R&B label was nation’s sixth-largest record company during the ‘40s and ‘50s.  2018

During a Judas Priest concert in Poland frontman Rob Halford voices his support for the Ukraine. Following a statement in support of the Ukraine’s battle to beat back a Russian invasion he chants “Free Ukraine!” 2022

Marc Lopes makes his live debut with Metal Church at the Legions Of Metal Festival in Chicago. Lopes joined Metal Church in ’22 replacing the late Mike Howe.  2023
