Disturbed’s David Draiman Criticizes Those Who Take Pleasure In L.A. Wildfire Victim’s Suffering
“There are people on this platform (Instagram) cheering on the destruction caused by the Los Angeles Fires,” the David Draiman wrote. “Delighting in the misery and misfortune of others… Nothing justifies this. No reason. No cause. NOTHING. Absolute scum. The lot of you.”
Since the wildfires began on January 7th, politicians, commentators and social media pundits have said or implied that Los Angeles residents “had it coming” for a variety of reasons including God’s ‘righteous’ vengeance to environmental ‘mismanagement’. Politicians, in particular, have used the fires as a political football to score points.
Iron Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith and Spiritbox bassist Josh Gilbert have lost their homes in the wildfires while Rage Against The Machine’s Brad Wilk and Anthrax’s Scott Ian were forced to evacuate.
The Recording Academy’s MusiCares foundation has pledged $1 million to support artists and music industry professionals affected by the ongoing wildfires in the Los Angeles area.
Also, Guitar Center has launched an initiative to replace instruments and gear destroyed in the blaze, while the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) and Sweet Relief Musicians Fund are providing immediate financial assistance to musicians in need.
