Did Mini-Mötley Crües Kill ‘Hair Metal’?
If you are spending sleepless nights trying to figure why “Hair Metal” died an unceremonious death in the early ’90s there is an answer…. maybe a couple.
It’s generally accepted that Grunge (Nirvana, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, among others) killed Hair Metal. That obviously had something to do with it but according to Ratt‘s Stephen Pearcy (pictured left), there was another factor.
“The whole world was filled with mini-Mötley Crües and mini-Ratts (“Round And Round“), and it just got to be too much. And so, things went from being amazing to being the absolute worst very quickly.”
“When everyone is making the same music, using the same producers, and the same video directors, you’re going to have a problem.”
There you have it… of course, that’s pretty much what happened to Grunge. That and the death of Nirvana‘s Kurt Cobain.
