A Day In Rock – October 7th, 2004: Tommy Lee Gets Schooled
On this day, twenty years ago… Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee, a high school dropout, begins classes in chemistry, literature and the history of Rock n’ Roll (should get an ‘A’) at the University of Nebraska.
NBC gleaned enough footage for “Tommy Lee Goes To College,” a six-segment series. But all was not as it appeared.
Though considered a “reality show” much of the plot was scripted. There were casting calls for parts in the show. It was also later revealed that the “dorm room” in which Lee stayed was off-campus and made to look like a college dorm room.
A disclaimer at the end of the show revealed that while Lee attended classes, he did not enroll at the University of Nebraska and that certain situations were staged or edited for comedic effect.
The show began broadcasting on NBC in August of 2005 with episodes repeated days later on VH1.
