 The Doors’ sophomore album, “Strange Days” is released. The set contains the title track, “People Are Strange”, “Love Me Two Times” and “When The Music’s Over.” 1967

Time magazine’s review of the album goes off the deep end saying the group takes listeners “into symbolic realms of the unconscious – eerie night worlds filled with throbbing rhythms, shivery metallic tones, unsettling images.” Could the Elektra Records promo department have written it any better?

“Black Sabbath Vol. 4” drops. It is the group’s first album produced by guitarist Tony Iommi and sells over a million copies. 1972

Evanescence issue “The Open Door,” the follow-up to their ’03 smash “Fallen.” The songs represent singer Amy Lee’s maiden effort with former Cold guitarist Terry Balsamo. “(After Ben Moody’s departure), I didn’t have somebody – I don’t want to be mean – holding me back,” says Lee. “Call Me When You’re Sober” is the lead single. 2006

Foo Fighters release their sixth album, “Echoes, Silence, Patience And Grace,” containing the single, “The Pretender.” 2007

“There’s four-piece Rock band s**t, but then there are songs where the middle sections turn into this mass orchestrated swarm and ridiculous time signatures,” says frontman David Grohl. “The album… sounds like a Foo Fighters album, but it’s definitely moving in a few different directions.”

John Locke, keyboards for Spirit, is born in L.A. 1943

“The Beatles” Saturday morning cartoon show premieres. The animated group’s look is right out of “A Hard Day’s Night.” The show uses Beatle songs but actors dub the voices. It runs for four years. 1965

The Yardbirds “Heart Full Of Soul” sneaks into the Top 10 (#9). 1965

One of the weakest studio albums in the Rolling Stones pre-80’s catalog “Goat’s Head Soup” goes gold. 1973

Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen, Jr. form a band called Feedback in Dublin. They later rename themselves U2. 1976

Led Zeppelin drummer John “Bonzo” Bonham dies after choking in his sleep following excessive vodka drinking. 1980

James Brown kicks it in gear and leads police on a two-state car chase. As a result, Brown is later sentenced to six years in prison for failing to stop but only serves two. 1988

Billy Joel sues his former manager for $90 million. He charges fraud among other things. In the end, Joel walks away with $2 million. 1989

Drummer Dave Grohl is asked to join Nirvana. He accepts. 1990

Though the Red Hot Chili Peppers “Soul To Squeeze” fails to make pop’s Top 20 (#22), it is #1 on the Alternative Airplay chart. It’s also featured on the “Coneheads” soundtrack. 1993

Nirvana performs on Saturday Night Live. It’s guitarist Pat Smear’s debut appearance with the group. 1993

Creed’s “Higher” tops the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. 1999

The New Orleans Saints easily beat the Atlanta Falcons on ESPN’s Monday Night Football. But before that happens, U2 and Green Day perform together during the pre-game show to celebrate the reopening of the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans after the city was flooded during a hurricane. The two bands perform U2’s “Beautiful Day,” and Green Day’s “Wake Me Up When September Ends.” 2006

Farm Aid’s board of directors, which includes Neil Young and John Mellencamp, draft an open letter urging Congress to divert its focus from the corporate-sector payout (caused by insanely reckless financial practices) and look into supplying family farms with $1 billion. “When farms thrive, Main Street businesses and local communities thrive,” reads the message. 2008

Neil Young’s “Waging Heavy Peace: A Hippie Dream” is available. Publisher’s Weekly calls the book a “high-spirited, and reflective memoir.” 2012

Heart’s Ann and Nancy Wilson are honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Alice In Chains’ Jerry Cantrell and Mike Inez speak during the ceremony in front of the Musician’s Institute. 2012

Disturbed have the #1 song on Rock Radio with “Are You Ready.” It’s the band’s 12th #1 single and the fastest chart-climber of its career, reaching the top spot in six weeks. “Are You Ready,” also claims close to 4-million Spotify streams. 2018

“Only Love Can Save Me Now” is #1 on the Mainstream Rock chart.  The Pretty Reckless track features Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron (both of Soundgarden).  2021

Staind frontman Aaron Lewis urges fans to chant “F*ck Joe Biden” during a concert in Pennsylvania. The outspoken conservative singer is a frequent critic of the president. 2021

Machine Gun Kelly’s public feud with Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor gets MGK consistently booed by the fans in attendance at the Louder Than Life festival, which culminates in MGK punching a fan who breaches the barricade. The feud began a week earlier at the Riot Festival when MGK dissed Taylor while onstage (Slipknot was also performing at the festival) which led the pair to exchange insults via Twitter. 2021

Knotfest returns after a year’s absence – due to COVID-19 – at National Balloon Classic Field in Indianola, Iowa. Obviously, Slipknot headlines with Lamb Of God and Megadeth also on the bill. 2021
