2006 Original Molly Hatchet guitarist Duane Roland dies at age 53 of natural causes at his residence in St. Augustine, FL. Roland was part of the Southern-rock group’s three-guitar attack from ’76 until ’90.
2008 Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Anthony Kiedis is the top male vote-getter in the Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity poll conducted by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. “Soon after I (went vegan) I saw some documentary footage of what happens in the factory farming of cows,” says the singer. “It sealed the deal.”
2010 Green Day perform at London’s Wembley Stadium before an estimated audience of 80,000. “Playing Wembley Stadium is kind one of those moments in your career when you just go holy s**t!,” says frontman Billie Joe Armstrong.
2010 Bono’s opinion piece on Northern Ireland’s Bloody Sunday is published in the New York Times. On 1/30/72, British soldiers fired on a civil rights march in the majority Catholic area of the Bogside in Derry, killing 14 unarmed protesters. The violence was the inspiration for the classic U2 song “Sunday Bloody Sunday.”
2018 Bad Wolves donate $250,000 to the family of the late Cranberries singer Dolores O’Riordan, who died suddenly on 1/15/18, just hours before she was supposed to lend her voice to Bad Wolves cover of the Cranberries classic “Zombie.” The cover eventually becomes a huge hit. The band invites O’Riordan’s children onstage in NYC to present the check.
