1989 Nirvana issues their debut full-length set “Bleach.”
The album, which sells over four-million copies worldwide, takes its title from an AIDS prevention poster in San Francisco: “Bleach your works,” advises heroin addicts to sterilize their needles before injections.
2007 The White Stripes release “Icky Thump.”
Frontman Jack White says his decision to record their sixth album album on vintage reel-to-reel equipment was a stylistic choice. “In the technological age, everyone wants to find out what the newest toy is,” says White. “That attitude doesn’t really coincide with what sounds the best.”
1999 Carlos Santana’s ‘comeback’ album, “Supernatural” is released.
The guitar great’s set features the hit “Smooth,” with vocals by Matchbox Twenty’s Rob Thomas.
Selling over 30-million copies worldwide (approximately one-third of that coming from the U.S.), the album was the band’s first to peak at #1 on the Billboard chart since “Santana III” in 1971.

1976 A native of Redondo Beach, CA, Alien Ant Farm’s Dryden Vera Mitchell enters the world.
1981 The guitarist/keyboardist for Good Charlotte, Billy Martin, has a birthday. He gets his first guitar as a Christmas present when he’s in the 6th grade. He joins Good Charlotte in ’98.
1982 Bassist Pete Farndon is kicked out of The Pretenders due to his drug problems. He ODs the following year.
1991 Van Halen score a #1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart with “Poundcake.”
1999 Meg and Jack White make their debut on the self-titled album, “The White Stripes.”
2004 The Beastie Boys issue “To The 5 Boroughs” album.
2006 A federal court jury in Detroit rules that the White Stripes do not have to pay Jim Diamond royalties from their first two albums. Diamond, credited with co-producing the duo’s ’99 self-titled debut and mixing the group’s ’00 release, “De Stijl,” filed suit against the Stripes in ’04, claiming that he helped shape their sound and deserves a share of the discs’ royalties.
2011 U2 takes the #1 spot Forbes list of the world’s highest-paid musicians for the second year in a row. The group’s ’10 earnings netted over $195 million. Bon Jovi is second with $125 million and Elton John captures third earning $100 million.
2015 Of Mice And Men frontman Austin Carlile undergoes surgery for a cardiac issue related to Marfan syndrome. Meanwhile, Pierce The Veil guitarist Tony Perry is released from the hospital after surgery for injuries sustained in a mountain biking accident.
2015 The Beastie Boys are awarded $668,000 to cover legal fees accrued during their long running copyright infringement litigation against Monster energy drink. They originally sought $2.4 million.
2017 A plaque honoring Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham is unveiled in his hometown of Redditch, England.
2021 Soundgarden and Vicky Cornell, the widow and personal representative of the estate of the band’s lead singer Chris Cornell, states there’s a temporary agreement that will transfer the band’s social media accounts and web site to the surviving members, Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron and Ben Shepherd and their managers. They had filed papers in Washington state U.S. District Court claiming that Vicky Cornell had locked them out of their social media accounts.
2021 A handful of anti-vaccine protesters demonstrate outside Foo Fighters’ concert in in Agoura Hills, CA that allowed only vaccinated fans. Those wishing to attend the concert had to show photo ID as well as proof of vaccination in order to pick up their tickets.
2022 In conjunction with National Pride Month, Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale says she is “unapologetically bi-sexual.” Hale is also in a two-decade long relationship with Halestorm guitarist Joe Hottinger.
2022 Metallica close their Copenhagen, Denmark concert with “Master Of Puppets” for the first time in 25 years. The last time they closed with “Master Of Puppets” was also in Copenhagen.
2022 “My Stupid Tribute Band,” a music documentary from the Dallas-based AC/DC tribute band Back In Black, premieres at the Dances With Films festival in Hollywood. The film culminates with Back In Black’s lead singer auditioning for AC/DC in ’16 when Brian Johnson’s hearing loss forced him to leave the “Rock Or Bust” tour.
2023 Alkaline Trio say Atom Willard is their drummer replacing Derek Grant who had a 22-year run with the band.
2023 Jeff Lynne (E.L.O.) is inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame. Heart’s Ann and Nancy Wilson and Steve Winwood (Traffic/Blind Faith) are among nominees but fail to make the cut.
2024 A restructured Pantera plays its first U.K. show in more than two decades at the Download Festival in Donington Park. Classic-lineup members Philip Anselmo (vocals) and Rex Brown (bass) are joined by Zakk Wylde (guitar) and Charlie Benante (drums). The latter pair replace the deceased brothers, drummer Vincent “Vinnie Paul” Abbott and guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott.
2024 Solo artist and former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar is honored in his former hometown of Fontana, CA with the official grand opening of the 300-seat Stage Red Theater, named after the “Red Rocker.”
2025 The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus singer Ronnie Winter takes to Instagram to tell Donald Trump supporters, “You are not allowed to come to my shows.” Winter adds, ” I don’t want you there. Don’t come to my shows.”
2025 Former Journey singer Steve Perry raises $215.00 for Altadena fire victims following the devastating Los Angeles wildfires earlier in the year. Perry auctions over 50 items from his personal archive, including the handwritten lyrics to “Don’t Stop Believin’,” which go for $43,500.
