1973 Following a disastrous Knots Berry Farm performance the Everly Brothers call it quits. Over a decade passes before they re-team.
1982 The film “Pink Floyd’s The Wall” premieres in London.
1984 Eddie Van Halen performs “Beat It” live in concert with Michael Jackson at The Jackson’s concert at Texas Stadium in Dallas. This is the only time the pair play the song live. Van Halen’s guitar solo is one of the song’s signature moments.
1987 Daniel “Dan” Coulter Reynolds, the frontman for Imagine Dragons, is born is Las Vegas.
1987 Steve Miller goes Hollywood and gets a star on the Walk of Fame.
1998 Garbage is nominated in eight categories for the 15th annual MTV Music Awards. When the awards are presented in September Garbage comes up empty.
2002 The Vines “Highly Evolved” is released. It subsequently goes gold (500,000 units) in the U.S.
2006 More turnover for Evanescence. Almost three years after guitarist/founding member Ben Moody departed it’s revealed in an online post that bassist Will Boyd has left. Singer Amy Lee writes that Boyd was reluctant to undertake another lengthy tour, preferring to spend more time with his family.
2006 Ex-Vice President Dan Quayle exits John Mellencamp’s concert in Stateline, NV, after the singer criticizes the Bush administration while introducing the song “Walk Tall.” Quayle’s publicist says the “performance was not very good to begin with, and the comment put it over the top.” “It’s kind of telling that he chose to walk out as I was doing a song about tolerance,” says Mellencamp.
2009 “21 Guns,” from Green Day’s eighth studio effort, “21st Century Breakdown,” is released as a single. The song goes on to sell over two-million copies.
2012 Linkin Park’s “Living Things” debuts at #1 on the Billboard 200. It’s the fourth consecutive Linkin Park album to debut in the top spot.
2013 Stevie Wonder tells a Quebec City audience that he will not perform in Florida until the state modifies its Stand Your Ground law. His comments are a reaction to the acquittal of George Zimmerman who was charged with murdering Trayvon Martin, a black youth Zimmerman found threatening.
2017 Adrenaline Mob bassist David Zablidowsky (David Z) is killed in an accident near Micanopy, FL. The band’s RV is on the side of the road to fix a flat tire when it is struck by a tractor-trailer. Others are seriously injured.
2021 Buckcherry postpone upcoming shows after two band members test positive for COVID-19. Foo Fighters also cancel a show because a member of their organization tests positive.
2021 Cinderella guitarist Jeff LaBar dies in Nashville at age 58.
2022 After announcing her departure from the Alice Cooper Band just days earlier guitarist Nita Strauss makes her live debut backing Demi Lovato on ABC’s late-night “Jimmy Kimmel Live!
2025 The lead single from My Chemical Romance’s “The Black Parade,” “Welcome To The Black Parade” is certified seven times platinum by the RIAA.
