1988 – A California appeals court upholds the dismissal of a suit against Ozzy Osbourne and CBS Records that claims a teen was driven to take his life by Osbourne’s song “Suicide Solution.”
2024 – Creed kick off the “Summer Of ’99,” its first tour in 12 years. The band’s 16-song set at the Resch Center in Green Bay, WI, includes seven songs off the band’s ’99 diamond-certified second album, “Human Clay.”
2003 – The Pretenders Chrissie Hynde is detained by police following a PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) protest outside a Paris KFC. Despite the efforts of Hynde and others, the chickens inside, original recipe and extra crispy, remain dead.
2021 – Lzzy Hale (Halestorm) is the first Gibson guitar female Brand Ambassador. Hale is also named to the Gibson Gives artist advisory council.
1998 – Garbage is nominated in eight categories for the 15th annual MTV Music Awards. When the awards are presented in September Garbage comes up empty.
2014 – Neil Young & Crazy Horse state they have been forced to cancel their concert at Hayarkon Park in Tel Aviv due to the security situation in Israel. “We’ll miss the opportunity to play for our fans and look forward to playing in Israel and Palestine in peace,” reads a statement.
2012 – Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler says he is leaving American Idol (a TV singing competition) to focus his attention on the band. “After some long, hard thoughts I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress, American Idol, before she boils my rabbit,” says Tyler. He was a judge for two seasons.
2003 – Rob Halford (pictured) is ‘in’ and Ripper Owens is ‘out’ as Judas Priest announces they are reuniting with their original vocalist. Halford left Priest in ’92.
2012 – Slash (Guns N’ Roses) gets the 2,473rd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “Slash is widely considered one of the greatest Rock guitarists of all time,” says Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.
