1980 Queen’s “The Game” is at the top of the Billboard 200

The set, which has a five-week run at #1, contains “Another One Bites The Dust” and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.”  1980


1980 Ozzy Osbourne releases “Blizzard Of Ozz.” 

His debut solo set is known for “Crazy Train” and, because of the associated controversy, “Suicide Solution.” Randy Rhoads is on guitar.


2009 Pearl Jam issue “Backspacer.”

“(‘Backspacer’) feels good – really strong and uptempo, stuff we can sink our teeth into,” says vocalist Eddie Vedder. “It was all based on this brand-new idea to us of ‘let’s write the songs before we record them’.”

The band’s ninth album tops the Billboard 200.


2005 “Have A Nice Day” by Bon Jovi arrives,

1968 Ben Shepherd (Hunter Benedict Shepherd) is born. He achieves fame and fortune (hopefully) as Soundgarden’s bassist.

1969 Blind Faith’s eponymous debut album tops the Billboard Album Chart for two-weeks.  The “supergroup” consists of Eric Clapton (guitar), Steve Winwood (keyboards/guitar), Ginger Baker (drums), and Ric Grech (bass). 

1970 The Doors Jim Morrison is found guilty of indecent exposure and profanity. The charges stemmed from a ’69 Miami concert at the Dinner Key Auditorium. The conviction is appealed but Morrison goes to the great beyond before there’s a re-trial.

1971 Peter Frampton quits Humble Pie for a mega, if short-lived, solo career.

1975 “Fame” is David Bowie’s first U.S. #1. Backing vocals are provided by John Lennon. That might have helped.

1978 The Who’s “Who Are You” gets the gold record certification.

1979 Lifehouse drummer Rick Woolstenhulme has a birthday.

1983 A benefit concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall raises money for Multiple Sclerosis research. The Faces bass player Ronnie Laine has MS. Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Steve Winwood perform.

1985 Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ “Southern Accents” album goes platinum.

1986 “Stuck With You” (Huey Lewis & The News) reaches #1 for a three week stay.

2005 Disturbed unleash their third studio album, “Ten Thousand Fists.” “It seems to fuse the brutality and darkness of “The Sickness” with the melodic nature and complexity of “Believe,” says vocalist David Draiman.

2005 Billy Joel gets a star on Hollywood`s Walk of Fame in front of the Pantages Theater on Hollywood Boulevard.  The musical “Movin’ Out,” based on Joel songs, is being performed at the theater.

2006 Jon Bon Jovi makes a special appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show. The segment contains footage of Bon Jovi going to Houma, LA., to see firsthand how a $1 million donation he and his band contributed to Oprah’s Angel Network in ’05 was put to use to aid the Hurricane Katrina rebuilding efforts. 

2008 Metallica has the #1 song on Billboard’s Hot Rock chart with “The Day That Never Comes.” 

2021 The Rolling Stones play their first concert since the passing of drummer Charlie Watts the previous month at age 80. Mick Jagger pays tribute to Watts. The show is at a private party hosted by New England Patriots (NFL) owner Robert Kraft at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA. 

2022 Billboard reports that the recently completed “Stadium Tour” headlined by Mötley Crüe and Def Leppard earned $173.5 million – on sales of 1.3 million tickets. The tour also featured support from Poison and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts. 

2022 Ghost scores its first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with “Mary On A Cross.”  The song debuts at #90 on the chart with 6-million U.S. streams and 1,000 downloads. 

2024 Corrosion Of Conformity bassist Mike Dean exits. In announcing his departure from the band he co-founded Dean says: “”Ever since Reed (Mullin) drifted away from the band and then passed away, it’s been difficult for me to collaborate on new material with bandmates who live hundreds of miles away.”
