The band’s second studio album, featuring the song “Daughter,” stays on the top for five weeks.

Steppenwolf bassist (“Steppenwolf” and “II”), Rushton Moreve (John Russell Morgan), enters the world. He co-wrote the classic “Magic Carpet Ride” with the band’s vocalist John Kay. 1948

Living Colour’s lead singer, Corey Glover in born in Brooklyn. 1964

A co-founder of Bad Religion, singer Greg Graffin, is born in Madison, WS.  1964

The Rolling Stones “Get Off My Cloud” knocks The Beatles “Yesterday” from the top spot on the Billboard pop chart. “Yesterday” falls to #3. 1965

“Head.” a film by The Monkees, opens in New York City.  Co-written by actor Jack Nicholson, it’s one of those commercial flops that becomes a cult classic. 1968

Cynthia Lennon is granted a divorce from John, who does not attend the proceedings. He is with the hospitalized Yoko Ono. She has a miscarriage later in the month. 1968

Aerosmith perform for the first time.  It’s at Nipmuc Regional High School in Mendon, MA. Guitarist Joe Perry’s mother helped them get them the gig.  1970

The Sex Pistols perform their first show. It lasts for 20 minutes at St. Martin’s Art School in London. 1975

From the Steve Miller Band’s album “Fly Like An Eagle,” “Rock n” Me,” hits #1. It’s the group’s second chart topper. “The Joker” was the first. 1976

Don Henley’s “Dirty Laundry” is #1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart.  1982

 Meat Loaf’s “I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That)” is the #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100. 1993

Meanwhile, The Lemonheads’ “Into Your Arms” tops the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart.  1993

Oasis is named the Best Rock Act at the fourth annual MTV Europe Music Awards. 1997

Foo Fighters take off with “Learn To Fly,” the #1 song on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart.  1999

Ticked that a ban on gay marriage passed in her home state of California, Melissa Etheridge says that because she is not “allowed the same right under the state constitution as any other citizen” she will no longer pay the state’s income tax. 2008

Aerosmith unfurl “Music From Another Dimension.” “We’ve got the goods… ain’t no doubt about it,” states frontman Steven Tyler. Unfortunately, the public disagrees. 2012

National Geographic announces that a species of frog that sounds like a bat has been named after Ozzy Osbourne. The frog, who resides in the Brazilian Amazon, is named Dendropsophus ozzyi by the scientists who discovered it. 2014

“Kill Your Friends” is in theaters. The soundtrack for the comedy-thriller includes Blur’s “Beetlebum,” “Cigarettes & Alcohol” by Oasis and Radiohead’s “Karma Police.” 2015

Opening act blues. Mötley Crüe is sued by The Raskins for mistreatment on the Crüe’s ’14 tour. The band paid for the privilege of being Crüe’s opening act but claim they suffered emotional distress, gross negligence, tortious interference, destruction of property, breach of contract, breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, and unjust enrichment. On one occasion, Mötley Crüe’s road crew allegedly ran on stage in monkey masks and sprayed The Raskins “with water guns filled with urine.” That alone is worth $30 million. 2016

Five Finger Death Punch drummer Jeremy Spencer sits out the band’s co-headlining tour with Breaking Bejamin to undergo back surgery. 2018

System Of A Down release “Protect The Land” and “Genocidal Humanoidz” their first new music in nearly 15 years, The tracks go to #1 and #2 on Billboard’s Hot Hard Rock Songs chart. Combined streaming and downloads nets $600,000 in aid for Armenians affected by the war in Nagorno-Karabakh (a.k.a. Artsakh). 2020

Asking Alexandria earns its first U.S. Radio #1 on the Mediabase chart with “Alone Again.” The song is from the band’s seventh full-length studio album “See What’s On The Inside.”  2021
