George Harrison ‘s “Something” and John Lennon’s “Come Together,” are released as a double A-sided single in the U.S. It is Harrison’s first A-side single with The Beatles and the only song written by him to top the U.S. charts while he is in the band. 1969

“Led Zeppelin: Shadows Taller Than Our Souls” is in stores. Written by Charles R. Cross, the book has nine chapters named after Zeppelin albums. The title comes from a line in “Stairway To Heaven.” 2009

Former Blink-182 guitarist Tom DeLonge debuts his novel “Poet Anderson… Of Nightmares.” It’s the first in a trilogy of teen-oriented books written in collaboration with novelist Suzanne Young. 2015

REO Speedwagon’s Kevin Cronin has a birthday. The group’s two #1 hits, “Keep On Loving You” (’81) and “Can’t Fight This Feeling” (’85) were written and sung by him. 1951

Bassist Tommy Stinson has a birthday. With The Replacements into the ’90s, he later joins Guns N’ Roses. 1966

The Beatles’ “Hey Jude” promotional film, directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, is broadcast for the first time in the U.S. on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. 1968

John Lydon (the Sex Pistols’ Johnny Rotten) gets into a Dublin bar brawl. He is sentenced to three months in jail but is later acquitted. 1980

Incubus singer Brandon Boyd is arrested for carrying a switchblade in his bag while trying to board a plane at New York’s LaGuardia Airport on his way to a concert in Raleigh. Charged with criminal possession of a weapon, Boyd is able to make the concert. He says he forgot the knife was in the bag. 2004

A bomb scare interrupts the Rolling Stones concert in Charlottesville, VA. Eight songs into the show Mick Jagger informs the crowd that authorities have directed the group to temporarily stop. Audience members in the first 20 rows vacate their seats while bomb-sniffing dogs check the area. Nothing is found so the concert resumes. 2005

Martin Scorsese’s film, “The Departed,” opens featuring two Rolling Stones songs, “Gimme Shelter” and “Let It Loose,” on the soundtrack. Oh yeah, the movie stars Matt Damon, Leonardo Di Caprio and Jack Nicholson. 2006

Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour receives the Outstanding Contribution to Music trophy at the Q Awards in London. The guitarist pays tribute to the recently deceased Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright. “He deserves this just as much as I do,” says Gilmour. “His work was vitally important to (Floyd’s) entire career.” 2008

Chris Cornell (ex-Soundgarden) joins Pearl Jam onstage in L.A. The appearance is a reunion of Temple Of The Dog, an early ’90s band that consisted of Cornell and future Pearl Jam members. Cornell started the band as a tribute to his friend, the late Andrew Wood, vocalist for Mother Love Bone. PJ’s Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament were in Mother Love Bone. 2009

Rock singer/actress Juliette Lewis is injured in a hit-and-run incident in Burbank (CA) while promoting her new film “Conviction.” “The sedan Juliette was travelling in was completely totaled,” says a rep. “Ms. Lewis went to the hospital to be checked out and is a bit banged up and sore, but otherwise thankfully OK.” 2010

John Lennon’s ’76 application for U.S. residency with his fingerprints and signature is seized by the FBI. “This really has nothing to do with Lennon per se,” but rather “with a government document,” FBI Agent James Margolin tells the BBC. 2010.

Megadeth play Beijing. Even though many of the songs are performed as instrumentals to avoid censorship problems, Chinese government officials halt the concert because of comments made by frontman Dave Mustaine after performing “Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying?” Also, drummer Tony Laureano makes his live debut with the band. 2015

Prince’s Paisley Park estate and music studio is open to the public for daily tours. 2016

Slash’s guitar solo on Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine” is #1 on the NME editors’ list of the 50 Greatest Guitar Solos. Jimmy Page’s fretwork on Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway To Heaven” and the Jimi Hendrix playing on “All Along The Watchtower” are second and third, respectively. 2017

The surviving members of Nirvana perform a six-song set following the Foo Fighters performance at Cal Jam 18.  Foo Fighters Dave Grohl, who was Nirvana’s drummer, is joined by bassist Krist Novoselic and guitarist Pat Smear.  Joan Jett and Deer Tick’s John McCauley handle the vocals. Jett sings “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “All Apologies.” 2018

Suicidal Tendencies regain control of their Instagram account after being locked out for three weeks due to the band’s name. “This isn’t the first time we’ve been flagged but hopefully it will be the last,” the Thrash/Hardcore Punk band states.  2021

The estate of Joey Ramone (The Ramones) sells a stake of the Punk legend’s music publishing rights to Primary Wave Music for $10 million, according to The Wall Street Journal.   The deal includes non-exclusive rights to license the frontman’s name and likeness, as well as income from songs across the band’s repertoire of music.  2022

On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” Paramores Haley Williams talks about the physical impact from her long-term headbang to songs during concerts. The vocalist had to undergo physical therapy on her neck to reduce the pain.   2023
