“My Sharona.”  For a week or two… maybe five, The Knack are the next Beatles. “Get The Knack” is #1 on the Billboard 200.  1979

A court ruling states that anyone who purchased Evanescence’s “Anywhere But Home” CD/DVD package at Wal-Mart stores in Maryland prior to the first of the year can get a refund because the disc did not carry a parental-advisory sticker warning of explicit lyrics. A Maryland couple sued Sony BMG Music Entertainment and its Wind-Up Records subsidiary over the absence of a sticker. 2005

“I Will Not Bow,” the lead single from Breaking Benjamin’s fourth album “Dear Agony,” arrives. 2009

The song spends two weeks at #1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart.

Metallica‘s All Within My Hands foundation donates $200,000 to provide relief to those affected by the wildfires that devastated the Hawaiian island of Maui. The grant goes to the Maui Strong Fund established through the Hawai’i Community Foundation (HCF). 2023

John Lennon issues a televised apology in Chicago for his “we’re more popular than Christ” comment. The apology has little impact on Beatle bans, boycotts and record burnings – mostly in the Bible Belt. Memphis city officials weigh in requesting the upcoming Beatles concert in their city be cancelled. 1966

After five years or marriage, Elvis and Priscilla Presley file for divorce. Lisa Marie is their only child. 1972

Benjamin Gibbard, vocalist for Death Cab For Cutie, is born in Bremerton, WA. 1976

Bon Jovi’s “New Jersey” is the first U.S. Rock album legally released in the Soviet Union. 1989

Ozzy Osbourne’s “Bark At The Moon” becomes a double platinum album. Featuring the title track, the album peaks at #19 on the Billboard 200.  1992

KISS receive their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. 1999

KoЯn’s untitled album is #2 on the Billboard 200 (“NOW 25 – Various Artists” is #1). The disc sells 123,000 units in its first week of release and is KoЯn’s seventh Top 10 album. 2007

Jani Lane, the lead singer of the Glam Metal band Warrant, dies in L.A. at age 47. Lane was the primary songwriter for Warrant and penned the band’s signature hits “Heaven” and “Cherry Pie.” 2011

Aaron Lewis, frontman for Staind, holds his first charity golf tournament. The Bernardston, MA, event raises over $150,000 for It Takes A Community Foundation which supports the R.H. Conwell Community Education Center. The foundation, founded by Lewis and his wife Vanessa, helps schools acquire desks, books and school supplies and funds teachers’ salaries. 2012

Paramore perform “Still Into You” at the Teen Choice Awards where they win the award for Choice Rock Group. “We’re just stoked that we have fans that want to come out to shows,” says Paramore bassist Jeremy Davis. 2013

Former Killswitch Engage singer Howard Jones duets with current vocalist Jesse Leach on the song “The End Of Heartache” during the band’s London concert. 2018

Some fans attending a Ghost concert at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Maryland Heights, MO are stopped because the venue does not allow “face paint or masks covering the face.”  Members of Ghost use face paint/masks and fans regularly replicate the look. Concert goers are told to either remove the paint, which many do, or miss the show.  2023
