Ike & Tina Turner earn their only gold record for their cover of Creedence Clearwater Rival’s “Proud Mary.” 1971

Their rendition begins “nice and easy” with soft, soulful vocals by Ike and Tina before morphing into a frenetic Rock/Soul romp led by Tina and the Ikettes.

“Proud Mary” earns Ike & Tina a Grammy Award (Best R&B Performance by a Group) in ’72.

Three Days Grace release their seventh studio album, “Explosions.”  The set contains the single “So Called Life,” the first new original music from the band since “Outsider” album came out in ‘18.  2022

Halestorm deliver its fifth studio album, “Back From The Dead,” contains the title track which topped the Rock radio chart.  2022

With over 72-thousand in the Pontiac Silverdome, Led Zeppelin breaks its own attendance record for a single-act concert. 1977

Pearl Jam begin slugging it out with Ticketmaster over concert prices and other concert related issues. The effort gets the Justice Department involved but nothing much changes. 1994

For the first time the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is held in Cleveland (rather than at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York), the home of the Hall’s museum. Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Stills & Nash and the (Young) Rascals enter the Hall. 1997

John Lennon (The Beatles) memorabilia is auctioned by Christie’s. His artwork, a Vox Kensington guitar and a leather collar are sold. The total value exceeds $400,000. 2004

Pearl Jam allows “Yellow Ledbetter” to be played during a scene in the final episode of “Friends.” It’s the first time Pearl Jam licenses a song for a TV show. 2004

Audioslave is the first U.S. rock group ever to stage an outdoor concert in Cuba. An estimated 50,000 attend a free gig in Havana. Audioslave then travels around the island meeting musicians and young people. 2005

The Red Hot Chili Peppers song “Dani California” tops Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart.  2006

Jon Bon Jovi’s duet with Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles, “Who Says You Can’t Go Home,” nails the #1 spot on Billboard’s Hot Country chart. Bon Jovi is the first Rock act to ever top the Country chart. 2006

A memorial stone in honor of the late AC/DC frontman Bon Scott (who passed away in ’80) is unveiled in his birthplace of Kirriemuir, Scotland. “The whole community has been quite behind this,” says the chairman of the town’s community council. 2006

An autographed $60,000 Steinway baby grand piano donated by Billy Joel is auctioned online to benefit music students at the Mount Carmel-Holy Rosary School of Manhattan. The school’s music program is supported by Ten O’ Clock Classics, a nonprofit organization that provides free lessons and instruments to Catholic-school students. Joel is a Ten O’ Clock board member. 2009

Blur drummer Dave Rowntree loses his bid to become an MP in England’s parliamentary elections. Rowntree stood as the Labour Party candidate for the Cities of London and Westminster and received 8,188 votes. His opponent, Conservative Party candidate Mark Field, obtained 19,264 votes. “I came second, vote held up well,” says Rowntree. 2010

Lenny Kravitz appears in a PSA in support of the United Nations Children’s Fund. Their mission is to stop preventable child deaths. Kravitz states that UNICEF’s immunization program, if appropriately supported, can help save the lives of 6.9 million children per year. 2013

Guitarist Joe Satriani’s “Strange Beautiful Music: A Musical Memoir,” is in bookstores. “I’m excited for my fans to get a deeper look inside my creative process in the studio and the stories behind the songs,” says Satriani. The forward is by legendary Queen lead guitarist Brain May. 2014

The Iowa Supreme Court rules that the daughter of late Slipknot bassist Paul Gray can sue a doctor who prescribed drugs to Gray for the loss of her father’s companionship, even though she was still a fetus when Gray died of a drug overdose in ’10. The court acknowledges that this the first time it’s had to decide a case centered on the rights of a child during the time it is a fetus. 2016

E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt is inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame.  Bruce Springsteen makes a surprise appearance. “Though born in Boston, Massachusetts, there is no purer distillation of the Jersey ethos than ‘Little’ Steven Van Zandt,” says Springsteen.  2018

After a leaked draft opinion penned by Supreme Court justice Samuel Alito arguing that the landmark ’73 Roe v. Wade abortion ruling was “egregiously wrong from the start,” Rage Against The Machine express outrage at the prospect of the Supreme Court overturning Roe. “Rage Against The Machine stands in support of reproductive justice and will continue to fight against any attempts to restrict or control reproductive freedoms,” the band’s statement reads. 2022

The reformed Pantera plays its first U.S. concert in 22 years (since ’01 in the Tacoma Dome) at the Thunder Beach Motorcycle Rally in Panama City, FL. In addition to vocalist Philip Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown, guitarist Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society) and drummer Charlie Benante (Anthrax) replace deceased brothers, guitarist ‘Dimebag’ Darrell Abbott and drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott.  2023
