The #1 all-time best-selling album in the U.S. is released. It’s “The Eagles Greatest Hits.” 1976

Pearl Jam’s “Ten” surpasses 10-million U.S. sales.  2013

Released in ’91, “Ten” is the 22nd album to reach the 10-million mark.

Linkin Park’s “Lost” debuts at #1 on Billboard’s Rock & Alternative Airplay chart.  2023

Elvis Presley receives his first gold award (500,000 units moved) for his second album “Elvis,” released in ’56. 1960

The Everly Brothers sign a $1 million – ten-year contact with Warner Brothers Records. They have already had a successful run with Cadence Records. 1960

Brian Wilson begins work on the Beach Boys classic, “Good Vibrations.” The song takes nearly a dozen extended sessions and a ton of money to complete but it’s worth it. Before the year is done, the song tops both the U.S. and U.K. pop charts. 1966

No American idiot. Green Day’s guitarist/vocalist, Billie Joe Armstrong, enters the world. He’s born in Oakland. 1972

The late Foo Fighters’ late drummer, Taylor Hawkins, is born in Fort Worth. TX. 1972

Pink Floyd performs “Dark Side Of The Moon” (then known as “Eclipse”) in concert. The show, at London’s Rainbow Theatre, comes a year before the album is released. 1972

The Clash open their U.S. tour in New York. Their first song is “I’m So Bored With The U.S.A.” 1979

The Darkness perform at the (NME) Brit Awards, but a planned duet with Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry doesn’t happen. Tyler and Perry reportedly had agreed to perform their classic “Love In An Elevator” with The Darkness but later back out. No matter, The Darkness pick up three awards including Best British Group and Best British Album (“Permission To Land”). 2004

Stone Temple Pilots’ Scott Weiland unveils Weiland for English Laundry. The men’s clothing line makes its debut at the Magic Marketplace trade show in Las Vegas. Weiland worked with designer Christopher Wicks to create the line. 2009

Electric Hendrix Spirits, producers of a vodka bearing the late Jimi Hendrix’s name and image (used without permission), gets nailed for $3.2 million by a U.S. District Court in Seattle. Additionally, the court rules that the vodka must be removed from distribution and the company is banned from producing any other Hendrix related products. The suit was filed by businesses (Experience Hendrix and Authentic Hendrix) that oversee the late guitarist’s copyrights. 2009

Hole plays their first show in eleven years at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire (theatre). With Courtney Love the only original member, the band consists of guitarist and songwriting collaborator Micko Larkin, plus bassist Shawn Dailey and drummer Stu Fischer. 2010

U2 is the first musical guest when The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon premieres on NBC. They perform on the rooftop of Rockefeller Center before joining Fallon for a quick interview and an acoustic version of “Ordinary Love.” 2014

“Smoke + Mirrors” from Imagine Dragons is out. The group’s sophomore set was produced by band members with English Hip-Hop producer Alex Da Kid. 2015

Bring Me The Horizon takes home the Innovation honor at the NME Awards. The group also performs “Happy Song” from their album, “That’s The Spirit.” However, the evening is best remembered for frontman Oli Sykes jumping on Coldplay’s table and knocking it over. 2016

Daughtry’s “Artificial” tops Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart. This is the band’s first #1 on the survey.  2024

Wacław “Vogg” Kiełtyka, who joined Machine Head’s lineup in ’19, confirms that he has played his final show with the Robb Flynn-fronted act.  2024
