Slash – on the left (Guns N’ Roses), Billy Gibbon Gibbons – on the right (ZZ Top), Paul Rodgers (Bad Company) and Chuck Leavell (Allman Brothers) were among those playing “Simple Man” and “Sweet Home Alabama” as a salute to late guitarist Gary Rossington and Lynyrd Skynyrd during the CMT Music Awards ceremony (4/2) In Austin, TX.

Rossington, the last Skynyrd original member, passed away last month at age 71.

Lynyrd Skynyrd, a Southern Rock band, had its initial and most accomplished run from 1973-77. The band’s signature song was “Free Bird.”
